Editorial: Ontario voters should reject special interest Measures W and V

Across Southern California, the union Unite Here Local 11 has pushed costly elections in its bid to impose its will on local hospitality businesses.

Such is the case with Measures W and V, to be voted on by Ontario city voters in a March 24 special election that will apparently cost city taxpayers over $1.2 million to conduct.

These measures, forced onto the city by the union, are straightforward efforts to punish the local hospitality industry until businesses fold to union demands. It’s akin to the frequent attempts by the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West to gain control of the state’s dialysis clinics by repeatedly forcing Californians to vote on statewide ballot measures imposing various rules on dialysis clinics.

The point wasn’t to actually see those measures passed, but to force the dialysis companies to waste a lot of money fighting off the union pressure campaign. That’s essentially the game of Unite Here Local 11. …

Ontario voters should resist this special interest intrusion. Vote no on W and V.
